Not New, But Definitely Exciting :)
This video from OK Go performing their track Here It Goes Again on a bunch of running treadmills is probably one of my favourite music videos ever. And it doesn´t hurt that the song is my kind of thing
Shot all in one take……I want to give it a go!
More Than A Month
Oopsy Daisy. Done it again. Left it far too long before I blogged anything. In order to stop this from happening again I´m gonna take a different approach to this whole blogging business and just blog as I go. Shorter, more frequent posts. First up is a video that I´ve been slightly obsessed with today……it´s fierce-as-hell French rapper/singer Yelle´s latest tune. Good thing I can´t really understand the lyrics, cos they are nasty.
Birthday Roses, Singing to Myself and Love From Pocho
Just a quick one - I´ll let the videos explain themselves. Thanks for all your birthday wishes - on Twitter, Facebook and the show.
No-Frills Please
Yesterday myself and the other “chicas de Mobuzz” Iria and Osiris, headed down to the Teatro Lara in Madrid to attend a Facebook Application Garage organised by FON entrepeneur Martin Varsavsky. His aim for the night was to encourage more Facebook applications in languages other than English, and last night, obviously, he focused on the Spanish side of things. Spanish is the third most spoken language in the world of the web, meaning that there´s an enormous market out there that´s not being tapped into.
Martin was kind enough to have a chat with each of us after the event for the show today, and I was put to shame by his language skills. Perfect English, Spanish and French really ain´t bad.
Now, at the risk of sounding blasphemous….I got kind of bored. I love Facebook, but the whole applications thing has just never done it for me. I don´t get the appeal. Every time someone throws a wet sock at me or invites me to put something in their fish-tank, or do a quiz to see which Sex And The City character I am, I briefly consider deleting them from my contacts list. So, understandably, the thought of more applications, useful or not, did not fill me with glee. I also wonder if the attempt to turn Facebook into the Mother Of All Websites….Ever, is a particularly good idea. My favourite bits about Facebook are the simple ones - photo-sharing, wall posts, event information and the news feed. Everything else is just…..tat.
Saying that, all my favourite sites and applications are the ones that keep it simple. Twitter is the perfect example - absolute minimum thought, effort and upkeep. The “travel light” motto is one that has got me half way round the world and back with just one small rucksack, and enabled me to move to a different country with all my belongings in one large suitcase. Facebook should do the same and forget the frills.
One Word: Lame
…..to describe my disgustingly minimal amount of blogging in 2008. And when I mean minimal, I mean none. Nothing. Zilch. Ooops.
I´m not entirely sure why I´ve been so crap actually. I could blame my extraordinary tardiness on being busy at work (which I have), moving house (which I have now done) or the changes happening at Mobuzz at the moment (of which there are many). But….that would all just be a load of hot air, when the plain ugly truth is that I haven´t had either the inclination nor the inspiration to write anything. So I didn´t.
But, now that the Mobuzz office has been transformed into a building site due to a little bit of studio expansion (when I say a little, mean a lot…..seriously, walls have fallen), and the whole crew is rather cosily squeezed into one room, I have decided to pick up my (virtual) pen again and start scribbling.
It´s Valentine´s Day today, which normally I think is a complete marketing rip-off (and I still do), but this year Pablo, one of our tech guys brought a mammoth amount of chocolate into the office. So now we are all happy, but also feeling slightly sick. Unfortunately Pablo is leaving us for pastures new at the end of this week, so tonight we are heading to the lovely Iria´s house for some drinks and nibbles (although I´m pretty sure it will be more drinks than nibbles, but that´s how it should be, right?)
So….signing off. I have news to hunt and chocolate to eat. Happy Valentines everyone!!
Trying out Prologue
